I passed the CLEP exam and that is all that matters. I used this book with the practice test and other online resources to prepare for 3 weeks.I have read the other negative reviews of this book. CLEP and REA are assuming that you already have knowledge on this topic. I didn't have any knowledge of this subject before deciding to take the CLEP exam. Some of the acronyms in the books are not spelled out and I believe that this is where previous knowledge is assumed by the author. That is why I would like to advise that if you have no knowledge in any of the CLEP exams and you are going to use the REA books please be prepared to do the additional leg work to pass, if not take a college course for 3 months which cost 3 - 5 times more.
I bought this book after i read all the reviews for this product. My background is engineering and this subject was completely new to me. I started reading this book and i completed it in about 15 days. I could have read it in a week but the subject was too dry for me. Then i re-read (3 days) it and used the Macroeconomics demystified to clear up some concepts mentioned in this book. After reading the book twice, i took the practice tests and scored well. I revised the book for the third time (3 days) and wrote my exam. I scored a 64 and saved alot of time and money. Highly recommend if you want to avoid a semester in college and save money.
I scored above the minimum requirement of 50/80, with a 67/80.However, I credit the practice tests, re-reading them over and over and over again which helped me most. I began to memorize the correlations between two phenomenon - whether one will cause the other to increase/decrease, ect.The questions were a bit more difficult than the actual Clep test. Which is not a bad thing.Though, the explanations to the answers essentially stated, "it is (C) because (C)" (it is because it is)The convoluted explanations, variety of acronyms (lacking any explanation of their meaning), limited analysis of relationships among phenomenon, no bulletpoint/concise summaries of important/core relationships and information, ect.I took the diagnostic test 3-4 months after I took it the first time. I scored below 40 each time. Zero improvement. Though, obviously I did well on the test. Additionally, I did well enough on both practice tests (56 and 63). Why is the diagnostic test like this? I feel as though it is designed to convince the test takers to feel as if this REA book has helped increase their scores exponentially (so they will buy another REA book).Though not impressed, and would buy another study book to learn content if I did it over again, I did pass. Some of the info I have had some exposure to as well; I was finishing my last semester of my political science degree alongside studying for this test.So....I suggest buying it for the great test questions if you have the money to spare after purchasing a better study material.
Clear, but not thorough enough to understand things properly. As said by many others, this lists the information you need to know, but it really does need another book with more details and explanations. I got the Macroeconomics demystified for that.
Epitomizes academia. LaggingThere is no online MacroEconomics test prep. The REA site has the performance of a 1990’s AOL dial up connection. Website performance is terrible.(YES, I cleared my browser cache) Remember the old days when you could go get a cup of coffee when booting up and/or connecting to the internet? A nostalgic experience if your are looking for one!The REA site takes you in circles between their test prep and study guides. If their online presence is this dated/bad, I am questioning the competency of their book content.
I just took the CLEP exam and passed with a little cushion, (50 to pass and I got 55). This book alone would not have cut it but I'm glad I had it. The fog cleared and what made the MOST different ce was Macroeconomics Demystified by August Swanenberg. Without that book I would not have passed.
I found this CLEP book to be ok. It is not an easy reader unless you already have some background in the subject. I have found that studying for the CLEP can be done pretty much free. The online exams are nice and do provide you with somewhat of a starting point and individual feedback based on your answer selections and overall performance.
These books are all I’ve ever needed to pass my clep exams (biology, sociology, history, American government, and Principles of Macroeconomics). I had absolutely no previous knowledge or experience in economics. Studied the material for one day, and passed the Exam with a 58.
